Cape Exterior Renewal
A coordinated exterior renewal — fiber cement siding, replacement windows, a new entry door and a full repaint on a classic Cape.
Project Overview
A full exterior transformation combining new fiber cement siding, replacement windows, a new entry door and a complete repaint, sequenced as one coordinated project.
The original owners had accumulated a list of exterior issues — worn vinyl siding, three failing windows, a door that would not close properly and paint that had failed on all sun-exposed elevations. Handling these separately would have meant paying for mobilization four times and living with mismatched work.
We scoped the project as one coordinated scope of work. Windows and the entry door were installed first, so the new openings were properly framed and flashed before siding covered them — the sequence that prevents the leaks we most often see on rushed re-siding jobs.
Fiber cement siding was then installed over a continuous water-resistive barrier with correctly detailed corners and penetrations, followed by a full repaint in a coastal-ready coating. The home now reads as a well-maintained Cape while keeping its original proportions.
Key Outcomes
- One coordinated scope, not four separate jobs
- Windows and door installed before siding
- Continuous water-resistive barrier
- Fiber cement siding with detailed flashing
- Coastal-ready repaint finish
- Original Cape proportions preserved
Why This Project Matters
The difference between a repair that lasts and one that fails is almost always in the details that are easy to skip. On this project we addressed structure and drainage before any finish work, so the visible improvements rest on a foundation that will hold through Cape Cod’s freeze-thaw cycles and coastal summers.
